So if you think I only make wedding gowns and debut dresses, then you'll be surprised to know that Yna Mendez Couture already does menswear. In collaboration with the multihyphenated Benedix Ramos, Yna Mendez Couture launches "X": a streetwear mini fashion editorial.

Benedix wears a bomber jacket made with a touch of Ibaloi fabric: a culture close to his heart as he comes from the northern part of the Philippines and stayed in Benguet for several years.

Benedix's personality inspired me to also create a denim jacket in different textures, of course with a touch of something Filipino; the Yakan fabric which was incorporated on sleeves.

Why Benedix?
To be perfectly honest, this collaboration was a really spontaneous one because we were really working together for a different endeavour. Nonetheless, I took this opportunity to make him model some of my first menswear creations...but why him? I see so much of myself in him: a dreamer, a creator, an artist. When I first saw him, I thought it would be nice to work with him someday. Knowing me, I make things happen, hence this collaboration.
It's very easy to work with him. He involves himself in the creative process and is very appreciative of the artists he's working with. I am one lucky fashion designer to have worked with this good soul.

This might not be the last time you'll see Benedix in Yna Mendez Couture so watch out for more of us soon!
